Instead of maximizing effectiveness, its about Hero Hammer. They really want their champion to crush their opponent but because they have spent so much points to get there, he gets blown to bits because there is no army to support him.Grumpy Guardsmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17589097813598490581noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3830414113837067378.post-54962460939642718292013-10-11T16:46:07.708-07:002013-10-11T16:46:07.708-07:00Well Marines traditionally didn't need tricks,...Well Marines traditionally didn't need tricks, they were marines and could walk around boltering everything to death and then charge, rinse repeat. But now armies have caught up in terms of rules and weapons, but also the meta is caught up as well and people have really figured out how to destroy marines with their army more than any other.

While it may be no fun, I think you have to resist the urge to over spend. Some upgrades are good, but there is a really fine line with marines you have to walk.Grumpy Guardsmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17589097813598490581noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3830414113837067378.post-24944158225448842022013-10-11T16:41:15.781-07:002013-10-11T16:41:15.781-07:00One thing to consider is how space marines differ ...One thing to consider is how space marines differ from guard fluff wise.
Imperial Guard is all about the nameless hoards of humanity. they fight in fast formations, using numbers and tactics to grind their opponent down. every guardsman is a cog in a machine.
Space Marines are depicted as the grand epic heros of humanity. where even the lowliest of them is a great hero of the Imnperium. this fluff differnace I suspect is more apt to enchourage SM players to go into their army with a differnt mentality. as opposed to wanting their unit to function well as part of a greater whole a lot of SMs I think get the idea to try to make all their marines "super awesome"
Brianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00584530780335715745noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3830414113837067378.post-72573039906096948502013-10-11T16:40:45.192-07:002013-10-11T16:40:45.192-07:00You are completely correct (I play marines, guard ...You are completely correct (I play marines, guard and tau). I think I can explain why this happens as well... Space marine units are expensive and traditionally while other armies have all sorts of tricks marines either don't have any or are severely inhibited from taking things they want because of points restrictions.

I mean it's no fun when all you get to run is a bunch of tactical marinesDimmyKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11748903925658560870noreply@blogger.com
