For 15 more points you lose a dozer blade but get an extra weapon and a lot more front armor. I think that the difference in survivability is well worth the extra points, especially if you are going with a mech list like I am. However I like Taurox primes on scions, mostly because scions won't be around as long as a full vet squad with carapace armour, so I don't think that they will need to mount back up in their transports in a game. Finally Scions need to reach their objective and take it out before your opponent can stop them. Deep strike works well, but the taurox prime can do that as well. (at least when I play) In the new missions set it is always better to score even at the price of sacrificing a unit. Often that means essentially throwing something away by putting it in a key spot like you are suggesting.

The best option for that is really is the crappy Taurox. The reason being is that it is fast and cheap. It is a vehicle with a dozer blade, which means it can take most small arms fire. And most importantly it is a transport. This combo lets you drive it up and take a key position in cover with 2 throwaway units at once. Meaning your opponent has to waste more resources trying to remove the problem or mitigate it.

Another hidden benefit of the Taurox, is like Sentinels and other cheap units people are reluctant to waste high value firepower on it. (especially when there is a Leman or Wyvern on the board) As a result, the Taurox lasts longer due to its cover save (cuz you drove into terrain) and its crappiness. I love parking the things somewhere dropping off my troops and then just camping being annoying with the autocannon for the rest of the game even if it got shaken the previous turn. It also makes a decent AA unit in a pinch especially. It really is perfect for the screen role. It is still around 10 points too pricy though.
