Mostly the Victorian Guard (Cough praetorians) Along with a lot of other bits and bobs. In about 1 or 2 months it will be complete. If you are interested ill let you know when they are done.

And with free shipping worldwide it actually turns out cheaper a lot of the time (well for us in NZ anyways). I've had some good success using them as bodyguards for a primaris psyker to give them plenty of look out sir saves and seizing the relic early in the game and ringing as far back to my own line as they can until they are inevitably shot off it, but by then my platoon blob is close enough to grab it and sit there with a ton of bodies for the rest of the game. The later also works well in larger games when I use the same models as conscripts joined by a lord commissar.

I also had a lot of fun modeling these guys, posing them as if they are sneaking behind someone while wielding a big knife. Keep fiddling with them and playing with them, they take getting used to bc you can't use them just like regular guardsmen and you are dependent on the roll, but like you said if you get gunslingers you have a nice objective camper that can put out a lot of shots.

From the sounds of it they are a good addition to your army and I would seriously consider keeping them in, they can scout forward or out flank with al rahim. their real utility is their flexibility, which is awesome for an 80 pt unit.Grumpy Guardsmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17589097813598490581noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3830414113837067378.post-44285528630724385372013-12-04T04:57:24.006-08:002013-12-04T04:57:24.006-08:00Thanks, good article.
After that, I tried out my ...Thanks, good article.

After that, I tried out my Penal Legions (cultists, painted as tiberium mutants) after a long time, maybe even the first time (painted them for fluff, used them as proxy for regular guardsmen).

The result was astonishing, both squads rolled for cc goodness, and scouted ahead.
One took back the relic (which my infiltrating SM scouts grabbed turn 1, but got killed by Gauss after moving back), the other proceeded in cover to the enemy lines.
Turn 2 AlRahem, 30 men (with White Scars MotF, slippery Hit&Run plasmablob!!!), SM scout bikers and the LandSpeeder Storm (that fell back turn 1 after dropping scouts) attacked the enemy from all sides, leaving quite a few Necron warrior squads to finish off by the 2nd Penal Legion squad.
They died in the end by overwatch and Necrons striking back, but they wiped 2 squads of nearly-shot-apart warriors that would have regenerated, so that's okay.

All in all they could give my highly mobile guard army an edge by speedbumping the enemy (if they go for the stay-at-home CCS and vets), narrowing the opponent's playing field and assist picking out enemies when AlRahem starts smashing.
If they get cheaper in the next codex, they could become really useful, until then I have to test them a bit more.

Another notable point if you ever roll the "weapons are assault 2" option:
They are no more longer rapid fire, so they ALWAYS fire 2 shots, even up to 24".
Keep the guys in cover, and enjoy 2 squads firing for the price of 1.MajorNesenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3830414113837067378.post-58335048040905408852013-12-03T07:58:09.642-08:002013-12-03T07:58:09.642-08:00Well they are the scum of the imperium, the best t...Well they are the scum of the imperium, the best they can hope for is a good death. I would love if they could have some options for them, but as is they make a great spoiler unit that no one pays attention too till its too late.

I disagree, Vets are still awesome, I rock 50 of them and they get the job done for me. Make them 70 points and they get all the rules with no need to roll and get krak grenades. They can also take 2 flamers. So they become a evil outflanking unit that blows a backfield unit off an objective, scores line breaker, and takes that objective for you. Right now in their current status they are sub-meh.

Currently I think platoon are the way to go right now. Veterans need to get the grenadiers/etc doctrines for free in my opinion. You just choose one at the beginning of the game. They will likely take away the 3 specials as well.

Kazihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03184917018392583222noreply@blogger.com
