A blog about Warhammer 40K, and my favorite defenders of the Imperium the Imperial Guard. From tactics to painting, to just plain fluff. This is my take on the wonderful hobby that is 40K.

Blog & Podcast Updates
So I have been out of the loop, sorry but I have been travelling. I am currently visiting family and attending a wedding and thus my absence. I'll be mostly taken up due to that for the next week so have no worries, I have not disappeared and I will still post when I get a chance. I have another history post in the works that I am trying to get out in a couple of days if time allows. So I just wanted to take this time to give an update on things, mainly the podcast.
Torquer and I tried to get a recording in before I left, but ended up not being able to, so the next episode is going to be delayed till the both of us are able to get in town. We are shooting to make the podcast an every other Saturday affair, having two weeks between each one so we have enough time to record and edit, and also stay on top of things. In a way this works out as by the time we record most of the Imperial Guard will have been released and I will have actual thoughts on it instead of hopeful speculation. So episode 3 is going to be hot and heavy with Imperial Guard.
Other than that, I am really happy with how things are going and can't wait to see the full book. Orders are looking amazing, not all have been released but basically have Pinning, Split fire, Precision shots, can shoot and then run, the old move order, first rank which now work on hotshots. This is awesome. The precision one I really like, you have someone up front tanking shots, nope not anymore its all the guys behind him. This will take some finesse to get to work right but I really can see this being helpful in getting around those units that rely on one model to tank wounds. Split fire, always good, pinning, I love pinning so fuck yeah! Shoot and then run, suck it battle focus (okay its not as good as battle focus). But there are supposed to be more as well so I am quite happy with these orders, hopefully bring it down is still in here, I'm not too worried that it has been dropped and if so, oh well I'll bring more Inquisitors.
The new artillery kit, the wyvern, was unexpected but I like it. Its cheap, less than a griffon with shred, ignores cover, barrage, two shot blast with 48" S4 AP6. Honestly i like this, you see I love regular mortars, and this is about the cost of a normal mortar squad but having ignores cover and shred is nice, with one less shot. I personally like it, you may not, but my god you have so many artillery choices you don't have too.
Oh I just can't wait, just a little bit closer. I'm about to have a lot less money in a few weeks.

lol, i know the feeling about money, can definatly see some money disappearing from my bank account!
ReplyDeleteI like the new orders so far, but I am worried about whats going to be removed, i have a feeling that Incoming will disapear to be replaced with the generic going to ground, but either way, get back in the fight still needs to be there.
As for the Wyvern, i'm a little concerned for my griffins. there is no mention of accurate bombardment type rule, which i find very useful and is the reason i run griffins over the other choices. Same range and strength though, but 2 blast rather then one large blast, don't think this will make much differance, nor will ignores cover, as there both barrage anyway, so you rarely get cover saves. Shred will be useful though, will have to double check the rule for it, but from memory it will be useful.
The general trend in price drops is good though, cheaper ST's/MT's,cheaper Commissars, cheaper Arty. Its all adding space in to my army at the moment, i will just have to see how much is taken up by the 'Detts
Just been looking at the new updates and realised i miss read something! the Wyvern is S4 AP6! NOT S6 AP4 as the Griffin! Now i really hope they haven't got rid of the griffin! The only extra good thing is that its 2 TL Heavy 2 shots! (which may or maynot be blast, although its had to see them not being blast.) so 4 per model and, if they have got rid of the griffin, i'll be taking 2.
DeleteWell the griffon is in IA so even then you can take it. I am liking the wyvern a lot, its mortars on steroids and with 4 blasts ignoring cover and with shred, I am all about this. At 65 pts this is dirt cheap and being TL, its no different than the griffon in terms of accuracy. Plus the model will be perfect for griffon conversions
DeleteDon't get me wrong, I think the wyvern will be good. its cheap, throws out alot of templates, with good rules. But i'm still a big fan of the griffin, but we'll see what happens.
ReplyDeleteAlso, in regards to rules, am i right in thinking that for this you'd place the first blast, resolve scatter and then place the other markers off the first. So for two wyverns, squadroned, all 7 other blasts would all be placed around the first one? Also being 2 TL weapons, that means there will be a total of 3 bast weapons on the unit, the 2 mortars plus the HB at the front? Silly questions, but the blast thing just doesn't sound right to me, you could end up with alot of templates in a very smal area.
Regardless of the rules, miniature-wise I think they could have put a little more effort in the model for the Wyvern. It looks almost exactly the same as the Hydra. Only the guns are different. The Hydra kit would have been really suited to making it a dual kit with the Griffon.
ReplyDeleteInstead of putting resources in making another artillery kit and transport vehicle, I'd have liked another plastic infantry variant (ahum.. greatcoats.. ahum).
Well, enough whining from me now, let's not forget that our favourite army is getting an overall great update, fantastic models for scions, nice orders, tank commander HQ options, awesome Hydra model. Still don't really like the Taurox (although the green one looks a lot cooler then the blue one), hopefully FW will do a conversion kit to make it into a halftrack, or have wheels. And the Ogryns are all right by me, guess they'll be a lot cooler when given a more grim, darker paint job.
Just looking at wd10, and specifically at the wyvern, and it seems that everything that's been said is accurate. The only issue is the lack of enclosed compartment up grade, although this could be in the unprinted vehicle equipment list.
ReplyDeleteOh, and anyone else like the idea of relic plating? For the protection from psychic trickery apparently.
