But I dont want to get hit... :(
ReplyDeleteIts what you get for choosing work over important stuff!!!
DeleteI blame the Astronomicon
DeleteUgh... I know I sound like a whiner, but Ordnance on the Leman Russ... there's just little point to taking sponsons on the Demolisher and even less so on the battle tank. It's one thing that all your guns have to fire on the same target, but why can't we just fire our guns as normal. Hell, raise the price on 'em, just negate that silly rule.
ReplyDelete-rant over-
Agree would be nice. But I have run standard leman russes with just the battle cannon and standard bolter. In pairs they work well and are still pretty cheap when compared to other tanks of similar AV. But with the points decrease of other tanks, standard russes are not a first choice. I would love if a FAQ comes out to allow heavy vehicles to be unaffected by ordnance weapons.

But with it the way it is you have to buy some tech priest models to bet POMS. ;)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on another successful podcast! I have to say I find it humorous that you guys complain about 'whiners' and then Torquer spends the whole AM breakdown saying 'OP' this and 'OP' that. Granted I haven't played with or against it yet, just going off my experience playing against that last codex IG and my Mathhammer abilities, but I don't think the new codex is going to be much more difficult to deal with than the previous. Besides orders and new phsycic powers, not many revolutionary changes were made. The lynch pin of the army is the HQ and any alpha strike on this is going to hamper if not cripple the whole the army as a whole. Lots of armies, my own Dark Eldar included, have was of making this happen. Mech lists are another story, but mech lists in general are not that hard to overcome these days.
ReplyDeleteWays to counter IG, from a DE perspective, are pretty straight forward depending on the list. Your troops mostly depend on blobs so shutting down your troops is going to be liquifiers and other templates all day. You should beware the chronos because that bad boy is REALLY going to f--- your day and hand out loads of pain tokens to buff the rest of the army. If you are infantry heavy, DE getting in your face is not going to be easy to deal with, overwatch from blobs or no. Venom spam isnt going to be great against a mech heavy list, but there are usually enough lances/blasters about to not have to fear mech very much. Ignoring cover is going to hurt me, but I'm probably going to rush you anyway so it may not be that big a factor. Air used to be your trump card on me, but Vendeattas being balanced may have fixxed it a bit.
I'm not sure about squadron rules, but the ability to deny a quick first blood from losing one hydra may make it a better choice than you guys give it credit for. I laugh when my opponents deploy an aegis against me and I kill the quad gun with poison shots for a practically free first blood.
Servicious, the Disgruntled Dark Eldar
P.S. resist your buddies and do a segment on DE and not Orks (they will get a codex update sooner). I don't know what the meta is like in your area, but look over my codex and tell me how you think it stacks up WITHOUT allies. I too am a purist...
Well to be fair, tourqer has lost a lot to the old book so in his mind it was already really powerful, getting some very nice boons making it even more so. The hqs are most definitely a lynchpin.
DeleteThe hydra just isn't so useful anymore, with the ability to ignore jink saves it was useful against all the skimmers and flyers, now though it costs more if you want the same thing and is less effective. I can do more with a quad gun with orders. I am less worried about first blood, if it happens then I'll adjust my tactics accordingly. It honestly is really easy to kill even a couple of hydras in one go with opened topped, any ap2 weapon will pop one on a 4+ and ap1 on a 3+. So its as much of a liabilty as an asset and S7 is only ok against AV12 flyers that do the most damage. If they were not opentopped then I would consider them at their price range, but there are simply better anti air out there. The vendetta even with its price increase will be chosen every time over a hydra.
I'll look into your request, I'll need to find me a DE codex first though. I do think they can still work as a pure army though are not going to be at the top of tier.
Does Tourqer use thunderfire cannons? Dropping those on your command squad would probably help. Hulldown demolishers also come to mind aginst your infantry AND mech.
DeleteDE can be top tier with use of allies with beaststar and venom spam, but are not very competitive without either of those gimics. It makes competive list building very boring. We could be competitive with only a few minor tweeks. For example we are very handicapped by the FOC under 2000 pts. You can bring 9 leman russes but I can only bring 3 ravagers, how is that balanced? Eldar and IG can bring 3 flyers with one FA slot, but my ONE flyer takes up a full heavy, and isn't even close to as good for the points. Also I'm sure more people would play with talos/chronos if they too could be squadroned. I feel like GW is actually losing money by not issuing some FAQ updates or data slates. Anyway have a look at the codex if you get a chance, I'd be curious to hear your's and Tourqer's take.
Do Hydra's have both interceptor and skyfire so they can shoot ground targets? I feel the hydra has a place if only for the firstblood issue, but also the fact they can move, and unlike the vendetta or valk, have interceptor (i think) to shoot down drop pods and other deepstrikers before they have the chance to deploy or shoot. Sterngard drop is a tactic used globally by all chapters, but those meltas/plasmas don't even get to fire if they are dead or stunned. I've seen many a marine player gleefully drop some pods next to a vulnerable command squad only to go off in cursing after forgeting about an intercepting quad gun...
Servicious, the Disgruntled Dark Eldar
The DE problem is too many good things in the Heavy slot and the need to bring ravagers hurts in that you really have a hard time bringing the others. DE need some restructuring and squadrons wouldn't be a bad thing, though I wouldn't expect that.
DeleteHydras do not, if they had interceptor then they would be useful. They only have skyfire, it really hurts them. Before it was made up for by being able to ignore jink saves, but with that gone, its hard to want to take them over a quad gun.
He uses the thunderfire, but it is easy to counter with ruins and terrain, or keeping them in a chimera. Also the thunderfire is not that hard to neutralize
I just discovered your site and podcast a little while ago and I have to say that I find both very entertaining and informative. I look forward to reading and hearing some more from you fine people. could give you some constructive criticism as a new listener without you fine folks taking offense? First, please don't eat while trying to talk. Listening to someone eat is a little disturbing. Same thing with having to hear the music in the background from someone playing a video game. This really made it hard to listen to the information that you where trying to tell me. Lastly, I don't remember who it was but please stop hurrying the speaker up as he was trying to go over the I.G information. Personally I thought it was rude myself and even if the show went a little over the allotted time it will be all right. For awhile their I thought that if you went over the 2 hour mark that you where all going to turn into pumpkins. That is all I have to say about this. As I said I really like your blogs and podcast and I will be a faithful listener from now on.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the comments and suggestions, glad you are enjoying the blog and podcast. We are still new at the podcast thing so getting the kinks worked out. Will make sure to pause the recording while eating in the future :). Some like long podcasts and some like short ones, so we try and not run too long, as it is also an editing issue and adds a lot of hours to that process. Will keep it in mind in the future and we will prob break things up over multiple episodes if it goes long to not skimp on content
