Building and Painting My Taurox

So I got to it and built my taurox.  I will say it is a pretty detailed model and partly makes up for its boxi boxiness.  It comes together really easily and is easy to modify.  I magnetized the side guns to swap out as desired.  This was done simply by gluing a magnet right above where it glues on and one to the gun itself.  I also used a knife and opened up the turret view slit and shoved a heavy stubber in their.  I really like how it looks and I am honestly considering using these turrets on chimeras.

The model fits together really well and the top roof pieces fit snugly into place.  I glued the two top pieces together, but not to the main body.   So I can still pop it off and it fits well enough that I can pick the model up by the turret and the roof still stays on the model without glue.  I'll be keeping it unglued so when I paint the interior I can still show it off.

Built in person it does not look too bad.  I will say once painted I like the model.  It has lots of detail that pops once done and has a good look to it despite its boxiness.  There really is not much to say about the kit other than its easy to build and easy to cut stuff up for modifying.  I decided to leave the tracks on and they honestly don't bother me as much as I thought they would.  It would be real easy to change these out with wheels and it will be cool to see some of the modifications people will do in the future.

I painted the Taurox to follow my storm troopers color scheme. So black and dark red are the main colors with bronze and silver for the metallics.  The trim I painted in the bronze.  I mixed out between leadbeltcher and iron breaker for most of the metallics.  In the end I really like the scheme and it has sinister look to it and my troopers popping out of it will look right at home.

Not much else to say, the color speaks for itself.  All the detail on it is nice and helps a long way to making the model look better.  I'm looking forward to adding more to my fleet.  I am liking how they play and having side doors makes a nice difference when dismounting and not having to worry about facings.  On to my scions, have 20 of the bastards to paint now.

  1. Nice paint job, the model still looks kinda silly though. The "Metal Box" tanks of the imperium i can understand but no amount of well painted Taubox models will convince me that its a good looking model

  2. Looks very cool. I gotta paint mine before its first game this week. How did you get your turret gunner to fit? Mine had to hold his control up like a visor because it wouldnt quite fit properly.

Looks good. Although the fender guns still annoy me :P

    1. I was able to get the control to fit low enough that it didn't interfere, I didn't really have an issue with it.

    3. it could have been just that kit. The one issue I had is the shoulder of the gunner would stick, but after playing with the turret more it eventually losened up and doesn't stick any more.

  3. Very nice paintjob! I am actually very intrigued about the Taurox. My last game I had to proxy them with my chimeras. The more I see the model, the more I like it. It kind of reminds me of WWII armored battle cars from the Germans, or the U.S. and I do like those vehicles.

I am just sad that I will probably have to buy like 4 of them... darn more money out of my pocket,...but hey.. I have been building my army step by step over the years anyway, so no real harm done.

Also, different topic, I will have a game with the new AM (IG) codex this Wednesday, I will see how it goes. But one thing is for sure...that Vendettas are now 170pts really hurts my Army build...ouch, but hey, it was to be expected.

Do you think a wall of 5 Bullgryns could do a decent job shielding a squadron of 3 Lemans? I have been playing with the idea of using them to give my Lemans a mobile cover-save against all those mean anti tank weapons out there.

Either way, great paintjob, can't wait to see your scions up close!

    Cheers!

    1. Maybe, you will really have to test it out and see if it works. I have no idea how will bullgryns will actually do, one of those units you are going to have to test out as they are all theory at this point. They are certainly big enough to provide one at least.

  4. GG, can you put up a picture of your stormtroopers again? So I can compare them with your taurox.

    1. here is previous post which has my storm trooper and inquisitor with the same scheme. I'll get a pic of them side by side when I get the new guys done.

  6. Nice job and an inspiration for my own Guards. Starting to be more intrigued by the Taurox. One of the kits that at first had me most excited was the Hydra, since I play against Eldar quite often. Sadly, they seem to have gotten a lot worse for almost the same cost. Think you mentioned this in your Review. Can you, or anybody else reading this, still see them as a viable option or are they forever to be left out? (Too bad in that case...)
I do think there is a place för a couple of Wyverns though.

    1. Not really. They are actually not that great now. A quad gun with the ignore cover order is actually a much better option now. Heck some autocannons with prescience and ignores cover are great too. Its sad that they left that critical rule out and made them opentopped into the bargain. I really can't find a reason to take them now, even if I wanted too.

  7. It has been said when describing the M-113 APC.. "Uncompromisingly boxy" the Taurox has lots of "character" by comparison ;)

  8. I like the idea of magnetizing the guns like this. I'm going to try that myself. Thank you for sharing!!
