Wolves Almost Here

Just a quick post.  Space Wolves are almost here and I am excited.  They are looking very good and had some of their weakness fixed with very few nerfs, if any.  Dreadnoughts are looking to be good, if not super powerful.  Which I like, I wish dreadnoughts were better in 40k, but the wolves may have just gotten some of the best ones.

Love that sky claws and swift claws can get wolf guard character upgrades finally.  Thunderwolves are better, blah, I think they are stupid, but hey they are effective.  Santa Claws sleigh looks stupidly awesome, don't get me wrong the sled is pretty eh, but the rules ain't bad and its perfectly ripe for a conversion opportunity.

All in all the wolves are getting some great flyers, good dreadnoughts, still have some of the best troops in the game, and their psykers are good, if not as super powerful as before, and yes I'm looking at you jaws.

Wolves are probably my favorite ally for IG and will be an amazing contender in the future.  If you are IG and looking for an ally option, SW is a great answer.  Can't wait to see more, but this looks to be very good.

  1. Yeah, drop pods in Fast Attack are a fun thing with IG. Now you can simply drop suicide meltavets, SWS or PCS with special weapon overkill.

And actually useful dreadnoughts seem awesome. The fluff is so cool, but the usual rules are pretty underwhelming. 7th damage chart and venerable keep them alive longer, and a dreadnought HQ like Bjorn was something the Iron Hands always had in the fluff...

    1. Can you load up in to allied transport pre deployment? I'm still trying to get to grips with 7th but if you can then my stern guard are hitching a ride in my vendetta!

    2. I know you can do that with battle brother IC's...but don't know about putting sternguard in a vendetta!

But you can attach an inquisitor with a psychloom (whatever it's spelled) to a unit of sternguard, put them in a drop pod (with combi-plasma), and drop them next to a hive tyrant turn 1.

Makes the whole unit of sternguard BS10 vs the tyrant.

    3. Pretty sure you can though. Haha.

    4. I know that you can do it with IC's and I think you can load up battle brothers in to transports in game, but wasn't sure about pre deployment. Gonna have to have a closer look at the rules!

    5. If the vehicles are dedicated transports (as pods ever were) you could only put allied ICs in there, with the squad that bought the transport as an upgrade.

In case of Fast Attack pods, you can put whatever battlebrothers in there, as none MUST start the game in there.

    6. Yeah, I'd clocked the IC stuff, but it never occurred to me to start with a BB unit in a non dedicated fast transport. I'd be toying with how to get my stern guard in to the vendetta, but this solves all the problem.

  2. What excites me, is how the codexes are following a similar pattern. If they keep this up across all the codexes, I will be extremely pleased. It's a nice rebalancing act vs the old power creeps.

  3. You can so long as they aren't -dedicated- transports.

  4. What would your opinion be on a Black Templar ally for the Guard?

    1. Not bad, I would go with tooled up chapter master and honor guard in a landraider, with another bit crusader squad in another land raider. They are a good shock force that can hit really hard and the raiders let them get across the board and will soak a lot of fire.

  5. Most of the new wolfs models look sweet but I'm not to sure on the as you say Santa slay is it a hover thing or what if so I thought the only jet bike tech left was with the Dark Angels and they don't like to share things.
All you need now is for someone to make a Leman Russ model with his two wolfs and then everything will be perfect.
