40k Prediction

Well life has been busy, so posting has been tough lately.  Honestly the hardest part is lack of time/motivation to play 40k right now.  Its that time of year where work and family combine to make it hard to do a whole lot else.  Plus I have a lot of things on my wish list that I want to try out and till I get them its been hard to get really interested in playing.  Its just a slow time of year and I'm going through one of my 40k lulls for a bit till I get more motivated.  In other news I have divined the future and have a prediction.

Blood angels are going to suck!  At least  that is what the internet is going to squeal to the gods once it comes out.  And in truth it won't suck, it'll be good, solid, some of the fluffier things will be minimized, but otherwise it will be a codex that can play and compete but won't just dominate the top.  It'll be more flexible than initially thought and after a while it will start to show its strengths.  Its the new way of things.  Most of the codexs out now are doing solid and well, but not just coming out of the gates rocking and rolling.  There are still some stinkier codex's, but look at how things have changed for nids, they are solid if not great.  The newer codexs just require better generalship, simple list hammer is not enough.

Now I am excited, as I think there are some potentially good options for IG.  Sanguinary priests could be really great, especially for Bullgryns.  These guys are pretty solid already, but with FnP they become brutally tough to kill outside of S10 weapons.  Using them with the rampart detachment you'll have some really tough bullgryns that aren't running away and having FnP gives them a lot of staying power.  Plus the bonuses that Bullgryns give to your army.

depending on how these come out, you could almost make a deathstar with them.  Not an amazing one as what makes deathstars really great is their toughness AND mobility, which bullgryns will never really have, unless you get something like gate of infinity.  But you will get a super tough unit that provides bonuses to your army and will deal a lot of damage.

I'm excited to see what options are available because I really want to run some bullgryns.  In any case, I don't see blood angels being bad, just not the power house that people want.

  1. Wait, so let me see if I have this right. Your prediction is:
    1) The internet will vastly overreact to the new BA codex
    2) The codex will actually be in line with many of the recent non-flop codices (IG, for example)
    3) In time real BA fans will take charge and use the codex to form balanced and capable armies
    4) Internet hubub will die down in favor of the next issue and using BA stuff with allies

No, I try not to take bets that I'm guaranteed to lose, thank you very much ;)

Of course, I will be having to fight the urge to ally in BA just to put a Sanguinary Priest with a fifty man blob of conscripts.

    1. Oh c'mon, its a good bet.

Yeah that is another good option, though once S6+ shooting hits them they won't benefit, but then your opponent is wasting high S shooting to deal with conscripts.

    2. then add dark angels allies on top to get Azrael's 4+ invul for everyone and a couple ministorum priest!

  2. It will be the same cycle as always, nothing changes. Personally I'm waiting to see how a few things play out, mostly descent of angles rules and the red thirst, both of which look to have changed.

I've a load of khorne beserkers wait to be converted on to BA assault squads for my allied detachment.

  3. I am so psyched for the BA codex. I think it will be lots of fun personally.

Will I run it with an equally assault based black templar list and lose every time? Most probably :D

But it will be fun and fluffy.

FYI, I have a deep strike drop pod triumverate army of Black Tempalrs, Blood Angels and Militarum Tempestus. So much fun!

Once again, loving the positive attitude.

  4. +1. Internet always rages. If it doesn't rage, it just means everyone will rage later because the codex is massively op. (even then, they rage initially).

People don't like change, but they clamor for it.

I'm pretty sure there will be BA formations in the third baal book (since that directly deals with the defense of baal), which will open up more flexibility in the codex construction.

    1. there are some rumours floating around now on the formation in the codex, usual FOC plus 3 extra elite slots, but its also floating around that assault marines are now Elite! That ruins my plans for a descent of angles style army slightly, but the formation my save the plan.

    2. I dunno about assault marines being elite...(death company jump infantry though!). I think they'd still be fast. But ya the CAD adds +1 elite, and baal book 2 (or 3 depending on how you count deathstorm) will have an assault marine formation...it has to...

    3. Either way, if their elite or fast, their no longer troop, which takes away some of the flavour of BA. DC being elite makes sense to me, but it will kill of the fun DC lists a little.

    4. Keep in mind they also just released that there are something like 16 data slates in the next baal book, new warlord traits, and relics. The Baal book is basically the BA supplement. I'm sure there will be some sort of CAD or formation letting you take excessive amounts of assault marines

    5. Yeah, not to worried about the loss of assault marines as troops, detachments and formations are going to be there to help with that. Oh darn BA may have to take a scout or tac tax, but then again may not. They could very likely have a detachment that only requires HQ and FA as mandatory. We'll see.

    6. Was planning on a couple of tac squads with heavy flamers any way so it doesn't bother me much. And I'm looking forward to the detachments and formations, hoping for am assault heavy one somewhere.

  5. Have you made your own character its really good way to make an army your own and keep things fresh.
My guy is General Tiberius Yorke of the 1st cadian. (my army)
    WS 5. BS 5. Str4. T4. W3. I4. A3. LD10. SV4+.
This is what i think is good for him I have a little back story for him as well and wargear and rules.
is this sad yes but I'm a fluff nut I don't care. ;)

  6. My prediction is that BA's will get whined about and then someone will stumble on a combo which makes them silly painful somehow.

Hell their Tactical squads can take heavy flamers. Yes please. The rest of the codex could be as bad as a lump of buffalo poop. But I wouldn't care. Heavy flamers!

    1. Yep, pretty much. Its just going to take a bit to figure the synergy of the army out, not just find the spam unit and hit ctrl c.

Heavy flamer tac in a drop pod sounds pretty nice to me, but hey we shouldn't say that, can't take obsec assault marines that are meh in troops anymore, obviously its broken now. And lets just ignore the pts reductions that are kind of a big deal.
