Grey Knights and Assassins

In a mistake by GW, the GK codex was released in the digital version of the space wolves.  The army builder had the GK unit options instead of SWs, so its pretty clear that these guys are coming soon.  With that some more rumors have come out that have made me excited.

First the Gk codex is being pared down to just the Knights.  Good.  I never really like the 5th book in how it was GKs, but also Inquisition.  We already have the INQ book if you want to take some inquisitors, so naturally it makes sense to drop them and instead focus on the sliver guys and make them better in their own sense.

Along with this, assassins are looking to get their own book, probably similar to INQ, and being dropped from the GK book.  This is Awesome!  I love assassins but never wanted to have to pay the GK tax to get them or Coteaz tax.  Now I can finally get the guys I want, without having to shoehorn other units in just because.

Honestly I could care less about the GK release, they aren't my cup of tea.  But assassins is another story.  I am so looking forward to my Xenos hunter task force, with MT Scions, an Inquisitor, and some assassins.  Plus getting access to one of the few useful snipers in the game will be amazing.

Some will complain about losing assassins, but they were never the domain of the GKs only, and having their own mini dex makes more fluff sense and is fairer for other imperial armies that just want an assassin but not the Gks, and still leaves a GK player the option of taking them if they really want one (not that I saw a whole lot of them).

Oh I can't wait, now if only a deathwatch supplement would come out!

  1. Assassins fall under the inquisitions banner right? Could be wrong, I'll have to check my fluff, but wouldn't it make more sense to put them in to the inquisition codex?

    1. They are there own separate entity from the inquisition, they just work together a lot.

    2. Yeah, just been checking my fluff and its the ordo sicarius I was thinking about, but they just monitor the assassins rather than control them as I was thinking.

  2. Time to dig out my Assassins and strip them for repainting perhaps. Completely agree about "GK tax" just to take them, worse thing is all GK I have is 5 Termies and 1 Inquisitor so im looking at about 225 points minimum before I can even take the Assassin!

    1. No matter how you cut it it was too expensive to just take one assassin, at that point you really hade to make the Gks work into your army and build more around them then the assassin itself.

    2. How could one build around an Inquisitor and 5 GK Termies and say a Vindicare Assassin? Inquisitor is kind of useless alone so maybe have him camp an objective on your table edge? Problem is I think at this point its too much points so you would have to take at least 2 platoons just to make sure you have enough bodies, and maybe less tanks than normal - just not enough points probably.

  3. There is still time till the full codex release and you don't know the army wide rules and boons yet. GK only = good - what the hell are you talking about. This does not make sense because fluff, and expensive army and limited options but you ain't a GK player so I am wasting my time here. "We already have INQ" - yesss...after selling out 'our' codex to mooks of all kind. At least get your facts straight. Anyway this was expected. We will see if assassins will be in some future =][= codex...

    1. Gks are fine, just not the army I want to play. And if you want to talk about facts, just because they shared a codex does not mean assassins belonged to the GKs. The GKs are the ordos militant of the ordos Maleus, part of the Inquisition. The assassins are completely separate organization, they have their own seat among the high lords, along with the Inquisition, as they are not the same organization. The INQ may monitor them, but they do not control them. By the fluff, they do not belong solely in the the GK book.

  4. Biggest thing I'm sad about is the loss of power axes, mauls, and spears on the Death Cult Assassins. The Inquisitor's and Adepta Sororitas codex limits them to power swords.
